Occupancy cost (costo de ocupación)

Everything a tenant pays to occupy a space (rent, maintenance fee and other fixed charges), often expressed as a share of sales.

Occupancy cost is the number that decides whether a store can be profitable. It's commonly compared with sales: many retailers aim to keep it roughly between 8% and 15%, depending on category and format.

Include key money spread over the expected term, and compare before VAT if your company recovers it. Our free calculator does the maths in MXN, USD or EUR.

In Spanish: Costo de ocupación
